SUMMARY:Government Peak Enduro & Chainbreaker XC 2025
DESCRIPTION:Welcome back to our 4th Annual Government Peak Enduro and Chainbreaker XC Races! \nWe are back again and will be racing in two different formats throughout the day on Saturday\, July 19th. We will offer both XC short track and Enduro formats. If you are unfamiliar\, here is the break down: \nEnduro:\nAn Enduro consists of 3 to 5 timed stages which take place on technically demanding and generally downhill terrain. These stages are linked by predominantly climbing “transfer” stages. Although the transfer stages are not timed or part of the race itself\, there will be a time limit to complete them. Not to be confused with “endurance” racing\, though some stamina is definitely required.\nPLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING!!!! \nThe “Expert” categories WILL BE RIDING THE “GNARSKI AND HUCKS” TRAIL. There will be ride-arounds for the gap jumps and drops\, but these trails are true “black diamond” trails and significant hazards will still exist. The Intermediate categories will be skipping “Gnarski n’ Hucks” and will ride “Valley Thrash” instead. The course utilizes multiple trails that have a “black diamond” difficulty rating\, therefore there is no class for beginners. If you do not feel comfortable riding the “black diamond” rated trails at GPRA then this event is not for you; please consider racing the Chainbreaker XC race instead. You are strongly encouraged to pre-ride these trails before the event. This year’s course will consist of 4-5 timed stages\, and will be about 10 miles long with approximately 2000 vertical feet of climbing. Stages will be long\, and your dropper post may go up and down once or twice. \nThis year’s event will be chip-timed by Strabel Racing Services for accuracy. Registration will be capped at 75 riders and the price of registration will go up to $50 during the last week of registration. Any proceeds from the event will go towards building and maintaining our trail systems. Awards will be given to 1st-3rd Place in each category. \nMandatory Rider’s meeting 2:30\, Race starts at 3:00.\nCategories are:\nWomen’s Intermediate\nWomen’s Expert\nMens/Open Intermediate\nMens/Open Expert \nTHERE IS NO CATEGORY FOR BEGINNERS DUE TO THE CHALLENGING NATURE OF THE COURSE!!! \nChainbreaker XC short track race:\nThe Government Peak Chainbreaker Mountain Bike Race is back\, and this year we will be offering awards for 1st-3rd for both boys and girls in the youth races. There are a few changes to age groups for this years races. WE WILL NO LONGER BE OFFERING THE 15-17 YEAR OLD CATEGORY due to lack of attendance. Riders 16 and over are encouraged to race the adult category or the Enduro. The Chainbreaker is a cross country mountain bike race that will take riders around a challenging and exciting course at Government Peak Recreation Area. This event will take place in the morning before our Government Peak Enduro in the afternoon. Slots are somewhat limited with a cap of 30 riders per category. Cost of registration will go up the week prior to the event so be sure to sign up early. We are also offering event T-shirts this year! They will be available at the time of sign ups\, and limited quantities will be available on the day of the race. so be sure to register early! \nTimes will be forthcoming\, but we will start with the youngest groups first.\n9 and under: Boys and girls will be on course at the same though will be scored separately. SUMMARY:Anchorage weekly road ride
DESCRIPTION:We’re back at it this week! \nIntroducing The Anchorage weekly road rides — a no-drop\, all-fun\, social ride rolling through the Anchorage/Eagle River area every week 🚲. The goal for this ride is to introduce a re-occurring weekly road ride in Anchorage and surrounding area. Something that roadies can rely on every weekend to take place. \nNo drop means no one gets left behind. Unless you show up on a fat bike. (Just kidding\, but try to keep up) We will be riding pace group style\, 2-riders side-by-side throughout. Riders will take turns in the front of the pace group (2 to 5 minutes) leading out – if it works out. Sometimes it does\, sometimes it doesn’t\, but we shoot for it if we can. \n🗓 Repeats every week (day may vary depending on conditions\, schedules\, and internal discussion)\n📍 Anchorage\, AK\n☀️ Rain or shine – we’re riding. This is Alaska.\n🚴‍♂️ Road bikes or gravel bikes recommended for pacing purposes. \nMeet at 630 PM at Bartlett Student Parking lot: 1101 Golden Bear Dr\, Anchorage\, AK 99504 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Xm2YhVCWeZGhKYoX8). Do not be mislead by Facebook’s address for Bartlett. **It is 1101 Golden Bear Dr. ** \nMain route: Bartlett parking lot –> Glenn hwy bike path –> VFW drive (** if not under construction**) –> Old Glenn hwy (Eagle River) –> Jitters — return. \nStrave route is here: https://www.strava.com/routes/3347668844505209570\nSee you Saturday! SUMMARY:2025 CMBR Youth Bike Checks
DESCRIPTION:Free youth bike checks Monday June 16th\, 6:30-8:30pm at Mirror Lake Park. \nBring your kids\, helmets and bikes! We will have a line of coach volunteers to safety check bikes and helmets\, as well as mechanics from the Trek Bicycle Store of Anchorage and Off the Chain Bicycle Collective to make simple adjustments. \nYouth participating in CMBR kids are required to have their bikes safety checked before riding with the club. If you are unable to bring your child\, their bike and their helmet to this Tuesday’s free safety checks you will need to bring it to a shop for a safety check\, this usually runs $50-$100. \nYouth from the community are also invited to bring their bikes for a free safety check. \nTHIS IS NOT A DROP-OFF EVENT. A responsible adult must supervise your child(ren) for the entire evening. \nCHECK IN: First\, check in and pick up your Bike Safety Checklist. \nSAFETY CHECKS: Next\, your youth will work with a volunteer coach to check helmet fit as well as bike size\, tires\, wheels\, brakes\, headset\, chain\, and derailleur/shifting. If they pass all the checks they will receive a safety check medallion for their bike and you’re done! \nSAFETY ADJUSTMENTS: If your child’s bike needs brake or derailleur adjustments they will proceed to a second station where a volunteer mechanic will assess and adjust their bike so it shifts and brakes properly. \nBIKE REPAIRS: If your child’s bike needs repairs\, and not just adjustments\, you will need to bring it to a bike shop before riding with the club. Most shops are booked out one to two weeks for repairs. \nWe always recommend bringing your youth and their bike to the nonprofit Off the Chain Bicycle Collective. Off the Chain is not a drop-off bike shop\, but rather a volunteer run bike collective that will teach you and your child to repair their own bike. Off the Chain runs by donation\, so this is a very affordable option for families that cannot make the bike checks.

SUMMARY:Foxy Beaver Gravel Grinder
DESCRIPTION:The Foxy Beaver Grinder is put on by Speedway Cycles and Backcountry Bike and Ski. This roughly 36mi event features the best gravel in the Valley. The name comes from our award sponsor\, the Foxy Beaver Taxidermy\, located along the route. The course has approximately 1200′ of climbing with a couple of pavement sections to catch your breath\, with a wonderfully challenging section of what I like to describe as vicious gravel with steep ups and downs. Come test your chops and enjoy the best bar in the Valley for food and drinks afterwards. \nThe race starts at 4pm. \nMale and Female categories only\, no age divisions. \nThere are camp spots available.
