SUMMARY:9-13 Spicy Sunday Road Ride
DESCRIPTION:TLDR:3pm start from the shopRoute: 1.5 hours or so towards Sutton and King Mountain. https://strava.app.link/YgLgMXpJd6bPace: 16mph+\, for experienced road cyclists. Yes Drop ride.Waivers: Ready in my race bag \nFor the next iteration of Spicy Sunday\, we’ll take an afternoon start from the shop in Palmer…hopefully it should work. I checked the route at that time last Sunday\, and had normal and manageable levels of traffic. \nWhile Sutton is a fairly standard road ride\, heading further out happens sonewhat less. The plan and route is a straight out for 90 min before turning around. The route stops where I think the road narrows (I can picture the spot\, but not sure on the map) and gets sketchy–in all likelihood that will be our turn around even if before 90 min. Figure around 45mi and a mere 2000′ of elevation\, although the route is spicier than the numbers suggest. \nWe will head out from the shop at 3pm\, and have a nice warm up going up the Escape from Palmer. Expect crappy weather…. it’s Autumn after all! Pavement has rough patches\, so put on your chunky 28mm tires. \nThe Spicy Sunday Road Ride is hosted by myself with Backcountry Bike every Even numbered Sunday of the month. The times and starting location vary\, with this year’s* targets being 45-50 miles and roughly 3hrs ride time. The routes are usually on roads rather than a separate path\, may have some elevation gain\, will have a minimum 16mph speed\, and dropping back or going off the front is allowed (albeit slightly defeating the purpose of a group ride). I.e. this is the group ride for experienced cyclists. There is one more planned for the year\, with a Wasilla start; whether we do an October ride will be up to the weather. At that point\, I will be moving it indoor onto Zwift–search for the Backcountry Bike club in the Companion App. \nFor a more beginner/intermediate road bike ride\, check out our casual Friday Road Ride. \nStrava Event RSVP: https://strava.app.link/YQlzG82Kd6b \n*I may have /plans/ for next year.

SUMMARY:September Almost Equinox Coed Cheese and Crackers Ride
DESCRIPTION:Nox! Nox! Who’s there? Equi! Equi who? Equinox! Fall has flung and this ride will mark the 6 months of more darkness than daylight!! But as they say\, if you don’t have fun riding bikes this time of year you’ll have the same amount of light\, just less fun. So come and ride bike with friends at the September Coed Cheese and Crackers ride. We’ll ride for about an hour and then adjourn to the parking lot for cheese and crackers and socializing. And if we are really lucky\, Costco pumpkin pie will be in season! \nWe will be riding the Service Singletrack\, which has recently added another trail to the network. These trails have a bunch of banked corners and jump lines\, but they can be rolled for those who appreciate having both wheels on the ground. They aren’t absolute beginner trails\, but are well designed to be fun for all riders. \nDepending upon the group size we will likely split into groups based on comfort/effort levels. This is a mountain bike ride is for all ability levels\, and is a low-stress\, high-fun event. \nWhere: Hillside Parking Lot off Abbott Road in AnchorageHere is the Google Maps link to the parking lot:https://maps.app.goo.gl/z99fBKfgFx7A6uqF9 \nWhen: Tuesday\, September 22 at 6:30 pmPlease arrive by 6:15 pm to sign waivers. What to bring: A helmet\, a bike\, and dress for the weather. \nBIKES: These rides are for all abilities and we are not bike snobs. But you will have a better time if your bike is well maintained and capable of riding on singletrack trails over rocks and roots. Please reach out to Trek store or Dave (via messenger) if you have any questions. \nDOGS: While we love dogs\, we ask that you please leave them at home. We ask this out of concern for the safety of your dog and the safety of our participants. \nContact Dave via Messenger if you have any questions about the ride.

SUMMARY:"Changing Lanes" Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:Get inspired with this great documentary about safe streets advocacy! Here’s the synopsis: \nWhen a beloved teacher is tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash in Greenpoint\, Brooklyn\, a grassroots movement emerges to transform a notoriously dangerous four-lane boulevard into a safer\, two-lane street with protected bike lanes. While many applaud the proposed road diet\, it also sparks a backlash — led in part by a powerful local business owner. As government support begins to waver\, neighbors unite to challenge entrenched interests and fight for a safer Greenpoint. \nView the trailer here: https://www.changinglanesdoc.com/ \nWednesday\, October 7 at 6:00 P.M. at the Wilda Marston Theater at the Loussac Library. Doors open at 5:30. This event is free and open to the public. \nThis event is part of the Week Without Driving challenge! SUMMARY:Palmer Alley Cat - The Witches are Coming
DESCRIPTION:The Wicked Witches of the West got a little too rowdy on their way to the International Potion Conference. As they were flying over Palmer they dropped their ingredients all over the town\, and it’s up to you and your wickedest friends to complete the scavenger hunt to find all the lost ingredients before they come back. As always this is a free event\, but we are trying something new this year. We would love also this opportunity to use this as a food drive before the holidays. We ask that you bring 6 items that can be traded at each checkpoint for your ingredient (one ingredient per checkpoint). The Palmer Food Bank has asked for spices and hot drink mixes\, but anything works! The search starts at Backcountry Bike and Ski (132 W Arctic Ave) at 6:30pm (arrive by 6:15pm to sign a waiver and check in\, no registration necessary). Be sure to charge up your lights as this will be taking place after sundown. Also a good idea is a small bag on person or bike to store all your supplies. There is no set route\, though plan for about 5-10 miles of riding and 1-2 hours to complete the scavenger hunt.Costumes are mandatory!
