9-13 Spicy Sunday Road Ride

September 13 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm AKDT

TLDR:
3pm start from the shop
Route: 1.5 hours or so towards Sutton and King Mountain. https://strava.app.link/YgLgMXpJd6b
Pace: 16mph+, for experienced road cyclists. Yes Drop ride.
Waivers: Ready in my race bag

For the next iteration of Spicy Sunday, we’ll take an afternoon start from the shop in Palmer…hopefully it should work. I checked the route at that time last Sunday, and had normal and manageable levels of traffic.

While Sutton is a fairly standard road ride, heading further out happens sonewhat less. The plan and route is a straight out for 90 min before turning around. The route stops where I think the road narrows (I can picture the spot, but not sure on the map) and gets sketchy–in all likelihood that will be our turn around even if before 90 min. Figure around 45mi and a mere 2000′ of elevation, although the route is spicier than the numbers suggest.

We will head out from the shop at 3pm, and have a nice warm up going up the Escape from Palmer. Expect crappy weather…. it’s Autumn after all! Pavement has rough patches, so put on your chunky 28mm tires.

The Spicy Sunday Road Ride is hosted by myself with Backcountry Bike every Even numbered Sunday of the month. The times and starting location vary, with this year’s* targets being 45-50 miles and roughly 3hrs ride time. The routes are usually on roads rather than a separate path, may have some elevation gain, will have a minimum 16mph speed, and dropping back or going off the front is allowed (albeit slightly defeating the purpose of a group ride). I.e. this is the group ride for experienced cyclists. There is one more planned for the year, with a Wasilla start; whether we do an October ride will be up to the weather. At that point, I will be moving it indoor onto Zwift–search for the Backcountry Bike club in the Companion App.

For a more beginner/intermediate road bike ride, check out our casual Friday Road Ride.
